Using your BRITA Kettle
Before using your kettle
4.Place the kettle on the power base and
connect the plug into a 230/240 Volt AC
power outlet. Turn the power ON.
• Remove any packaging or promotional
material from the kettle.
Important: The kettle is designed to boil and
filter water at the same time, however some
water does need to filter through to avoid the
kettle boiling dry. Therefore if the kettle is
empty prior to filling, before switching the
kettle on wait a moment after adding the
water to allow some water to pass through
the filter first.
• Remove the filter cartridge from the filter
assembly and keep in a safe place.
• Remove the filter assembly, wash in warm,
soapy water, rinse and wipe dry.
• Position the kettle on a dry, level, secure
bench top.
Using your kettle
5.Press the ON/OFF switch. The internal
water chamber illuminates and this is
visible through the water windows. The
kettle will switch off automatically once the
water has boiled.
Important: Prior to using your kettle see
sections ‘Preparing the filter cartridge for
use’ and ‘Using the Memo function’.
1.To fill the kettle, remove it from the power
base and lift the lid, by pressing the button
on the top of the handle.
Note: Ensure that the ON/OFF switch is clear
of obstructions and the lid is firmly closed.
The kettle will not turn off if the ON/OFF
switch is constrained or if the lid is left open.
Do not remove the kettle from the power base
while in use.
Note: Do not fill the kettle through the spout.
2.Fill the kettle with the desired amount of
water. Always fill the kettle between the
minimum and maximum marks. Too little
water will result in the kettle switching off
before the water has boiled.
6.Lift the kettle from the power base and
pour the water.
Note: Do not fill the kettle over the maximum
level, as water may spill out of the spout
when boiling. When using the kettle with the
BRITA filter the maximum capacity is 1.25
litres.
Note: Use caution when pouring the water
from your kettle, as boiling water will scald.
7.The kettle may be stored on the power
base while not in use. The kettle will not
re-boil until the ON/OFF switch is pressed
downward.
With the BRITA filter and filter funnel
removed the maximum capacity is 1.7 litres.
Note: Ensure the power is turned off at the
power outlet when the kettle is not in use.
3.Push the lid closed firmly until it locks into
position.
8

Should you accidentally allow the kettle to
operate without water, boil-dry protection will
automatically switch it off. If this occurs,
allow the kettle to cool before filling with
cold water and re-boiling.
Cord storage facility
Excess cord can be stored by winding the
cord around the storage facility underneath
the power base.

Sunbeam's 3-Way
Safety System
Safety is a major consideration in the design
of a Sunbeam kettle. This is why we have
developed our 3-Way Safety System, which
ensures that your kettle will:
3. Shut-down in case of overheating
In the event of overheating, the kettle will
automatically shut down to prevent further
damage. Should this occur, take your kettle
to a Sunbeam Service Centre or Appointed
Service Agent.
1. Automatically switch off after boiling
For convenience, safety and energy
efficiency, your Sunbeam kettle features an
auto cut-out device.
2. Cut-out for boil-dry protection
If the kettle is operated without water, it
will automatically cut-out, preventing any
damage to the element.

Preparing the filter cartridge for use
1.Remove the cartridge from its wrapping (it
is normal for the cartridge to appear moist
during storage).
4.Fill the filter funnel with cold water and
allow it to filter through, and then discard
the water. Repeat this process, again
discarding the water. See figure 3.
2.Immerse the cartridge in cold water and
agitate gently to remove any air bubbles.
See figure 1.
Figure 3
5.Refill the filter funnel with water, the filter
is now ready for use. See figure 3.

cartridge before use.
Removing the filter cartridge
3.Insert the cartridge into the filter funnel
assembly and push it firmly into place.
When correctly fitted, the cartridge should
remain in place when the funnel is turned
upside-down. See figure 2.
• When it is time to replace the cartridge
after 8 weeks use, simply lift the handle on
top of the cartridge to remove. See figure
4. The cartridge may be disposed of in
household waste or contact the BRITA Care
Team for advice on recycling schemes.

Using the Memo function
It is important to change your filter cartridge
regularly to enjoy the benefits of filtered
water and keep your kettle scale free.
• At the end of every two weeks, one
bar will disappear to indicate the
remaining cartridge life. When only one
bar is showing, check that you have a
replacement filter cartridge available. See
figure 6.
The BRITA Memo system automatically
reminds you when your filter cartridge needs
to be changed.
When you have fitted and prepared your filter
cartridge, start the Memo system as follows:

• Press and hold the Start button until 4
bars appear on the display and flash twice.
The Memo is now set. The flashing dot in
the corner of the display indicates that the
Memo is working. See figure 5.

Care and Cleaning
Always disconnect the kettle from the power
outlet before cleaning.
2.Empty the solution from the kettle. Fill the
kettle with clean water, bring to boil and
then discard the water. Repeat and the
kettle will then be ready to use.
Never immerse the kettle switch area, cord
or power base in water, or allow moisture to
come into contact with these parts.
To clean the exterior surface
Removal of mineral deposits
The surface may be wiped over with a damp
cloth and polished with a soft dry cloth.
The BRITA Maxtra filter cartridge will
continuously reduce the limescale content in
the water, however over time mineral deposits
in tap water may cause the interior of the
kettle to discolour.
CAUTION: Do not use chemical, steel wool, or
abrasive cleaners to clean the outside of the
kettle, as these will scratch the surface.
Cleaning the concealed heating element
To remove this build-up, use Sunbeam Liquid
Descaler, a simple to use, non-toxic cleaner
available from Sunbeam Appointed Service
Agents.
This kettle features a non-corrosive stainless
steel heating element. Over time, scale may
build up on the concealed element inside
the kettle, causing discolouration that may
have the appearance of rust. Be assured this
is not rust. If this occurs clean with a green
Scotchbrite® scourer or similar and a suitable
abrasive cleaning cream. Rinse and clean
thoroughly with tap water before using your
kettle again.
Note: Should the kettle require descaling,
always remove the BRITA Maxtra filter
cartridge from the filter funnel.
Alternatively:
1.Fill the kettle with 3 cups of white vinegar
and the remainder with water and allow to
stand overnight. DO NOT BOIL.
